2012 - #22 - Tullyroan Oval - 24/6/12 |
With many away to the Thunder 500 at Ipswich on Saturday night, Tullyroan Oval ran it’s second Sunday afternoon meeting, and as the 3rd meeting in the province in as many days, it seemed a quiet affair in comparison to previous weeks.
It had been my intention to go to Ballymena on Friday night, the line up of F2’s and Saloons in one I’d rarely have missed in the past, but Friday was a miserable night, the back of the stand is hardly the ideal spot to take photos from on a miserable night and perhaps I’m getting old, or perhaps it’s down to the amount of racing there currently is, but it all started to look like a meeting that was easier to miss than to motivate myself to go to. A Saturday night meeting at Aghadowey had also come across my radar as a possibility, as Friday night meetings are unfeasible, but I’m currently paying too frequent visits to the diesel pump with running up and down to Tullyroan, so any thoughts of going to Aghadowey were quickly shelved.
Thankfully the weather had picked up for Sunday and we got a mostly dry and occasionally sunny afternoon of racing at Tullyroan. Conor Conlon won both heats in the juniors with Jack Gilpin the final winner.
In the Lightning Rods Colin McEvoy continued where he left off the previous week taking the opening heat, Francis Rafferty won heat two before Stephen Emerson came through to take the win in an action packed final in which only eight cars finished.
Adrian McKinstry’s good run of form in the ProStocks continued as he took the final win in the opening round of the P+C Aerials Supreme Series. Stefan McClelland took the win in both the heats.
Following a lively meeting the week before the 2 Litre Hot Rods car numbers dropped to 17 cars for the second round of their Wash ‘n’ Dash series. Adam Best won both heats to put himself on pole for the closed grid final but it was ex Stock Rod world champion Glenn Bell who got the better start from the outside of the front row and quickly pulled away and went on to take the win. Derek Martin ran second for the early part of the race before pulling off which promoted Shane Murray to second with Denver McLean third.
As a mark of respect to Steve Newman, many of the drivers had their bumper painted yellow, which was good to see, the gallery below features some of the cars, sorry I don't have room on this page for everyone who painted their bumper.
Approx Car Turnout – 70 cars (10 Junior Productions, 20 Lightning Rods, 23 ProStocks, 17 2 Litre Hot Rods)
