Perhaps it’s something that affects me more than others in August, but with the build up to the Speedweekend and the hype surrounding it, the next few meetings almost seem like a chore to go to. It’s not helped by the current culture of digging holes in the road, setting cones out and sodding off and leaving it.... the roadworks on the M5 are really starting to grind on me, 9 weeks of roadworks, I’m yet to see anyone doing a hands turn on them, could it not have been worked 24-7 and finished in 3 weeks?
Aside from the lack of inspiration to go to the racing coupled with the frustration of having to crawl past unattended work sites, some of the racing on Sunday wasn’t bad.
In the 2 Litres there was wins for Wayne Woolsey and Alastair Calvin before Chris McArdle won the final. The Lightning rods seen double heat wins for Tim Hazlett who ended up in the wall early on during the final, which was won by Ben McKee who had doen well to even get his car back out after a big shunt in heat 2.
In the juniors there was an opening heat win for Jack Gilpin before Shane McMillan went on to win heat 2 and the final. Jordon Robinson also managed to pick up a trophy for best white or yellow roof in the final, on what I believe was his first meeting.
Sadly the recent improvement in banger meetings seems to have returned to where we left off last season with each meeting poorer than the last, 8 cars was a pretty poor turnout and hardly something that will draw the crowds back, which is a shame because the 1400 bangers have put on a few good meetings in the past. Steven Reynolds won both races and the DD.
Hopefully I’ll be feeling more inspired by the next meeting!
