2013 - #40 – Tullyroan Oval – 1/9/13 |
It’s hard to believe it’s the start of September already, the season seems to have passed in a blur from one weekend to the next, one meeting to the next and it’s gone from cold long nights building up to the summer, to championship season and t-shirt weather, back to getting a bit fresher and knocking on the door of Irish Championship season.
Traditionally the National Hot Rod Irish Open/ British Championship weekend has been the last flurry of visiting drivers for the season, but with the World weekend at Tullyroan just a few weeks away that will take that mantle this year.
I’ll not dwell too much on the racing, simply because I’ve a lot to get through tonight and there is reports everywhere else on the meeting. As a brief run through on the Nationals, Glenn Bell won heat one, Andrew Murray won heat two where he was chased all the way by Shane Murphy, the second heat included a big smash mid race which sidelined Christie, Maxwell, Doak and Kew. Glenn Bell took a comfortable win in the British Championship, leading home Keith Martin who moved from fourth to second when Andrew Murray and Kym Weaver came together in the dying laps when they had been dicing for second. Mark Heatrick picked up third.
In the 2 Litre’s there was heat wins for Adam Hylands and Vince Campbell before Shane Murray took the final. The 2 Litres included the return of John Murray and Wayne Woolsey in the double world winning Tigra.
Bradley McKinstry won the Juniors, Tim Hazelett took the Lightning Rods and Derek McMillan won a Stock Rod final in which most of the field was black crossed.
Car turnout: approx. 78 cars (21 National Hot Rods, 10 Stock Rods, 9 Junior Productions, 20 Lightning Rods, 18 2.0 Hot Rods)
