2013 - #48 – Ballymena Raceway – 11/10/13 |
Since I turned NIF2 into a blog at the start of 2011, I’d kept tags on how many meetings I’ve done in a year, hence the #48 in the title of the report. The significance of the #48 in this report is that it’s a number I hadn’t reached in the previous 2 years and I reckon there is a good chance I’ve not done this many meetings before. In my head it feels like I’d hardly been to Ballymena this season at all, yet when I look back this was my 12th meeting of the year at it, in 2011 and 2012 I did 14 meetings at Ballymena, so it’s not a huge drop down to 12.
After a poor evening at indoor football in which for 7-a-side I think I was probably 15 or 16th to every ball and being stuck behind a clown in a Sawyers lorry who seemed to think the outside lane of a dual carriageway was the place to be doing 20mph, I arrived at Ballymena, just in time to see the pit gate close for the F2’s going out on track for their stadium championship, which I watched from the stand before going to get a burger in the closing laps and heading for the infield. All three F2 races were won by Chris Kincaid.
The Stock Rods followed the F2’s and raced for their Irish Championship, Stephen McNiece’s defence only lasted a few laps when himself and Victor McAfee tangled in turn one, seeing McNiece pick up a puncture. Victor McAfee went on to win the race, Steven McKane won the support race later in the evening.
Noel Hazlett won the final for the Speedstocks and Aaron Moody won the final for the Junior Rods, after a decent three way scrap for the lead for a good part of the race.
The National Hot Rods had a good grid of seventeen cars, with Nigel McCauley taking the win in the first heat before Stewart Doak won the second heat and went on to take the final, which had some good racing right down the field.
Approx Car Turnout 49 cars (17 National Hot Rods, 8 Stock Rods, 6 BriSCA F2’s, 8 Speed Stocks, 10 Junior Rods)
