Kirkistown 26/3/2011
The 500 MRCI racing season kicked off at Kirkistown on Saturday 25th March. For 2011 there is improved facilities with a new block of pit garages in the paddock, thanks to investment from the Sport NI, it’s good to see mototsport getting recognition and investment from the government.
It was Formula Vee’s that opened the 2011 season, with a qualifying race. After some close racing at the front, of which any one of six cars could haqve got the break, it was Adam Macauley that took the win. Later in the day, John Downey took the win in the Formula Vee final.
The pre 90 Formula Ford race seen a win for Jonathan McMullan, with Ivor McCullough taking the spoils in Open Formula Ford race.
The Saloons, GT cars and Fait classes all went out in the same race, with class wins for Pat McBennett in the Gts, Craig Davidson in the Saloons, Colin Clinton in the Fait Unos and John McCormack took the win in the Fait Puntos.
Race four of the day seen a class debut in the Roadsports for BriSCA F2 driver Jack Boal. Boal had led the race early on, and was scraping for the lead along with another ex F2 racer Jimmy Dougan, when the race was stopped after a massive collision between Andrew Parkinson and Brian McGoldrick, both drivers requiring medical assistance, and I’d wish them a speedy and full recovery.
When racing resumed Stephen Donnelly took the win in Road Sports class A, with Ryan Magennis taking class two, with newcomer Jack Boal runner up in his class.
Ivor Greenwood rounded out the day with a win in the Formula Libre class
