Cardwell Lands Irish Open Championship
Jonny Cardwell took a comfortable win in the Stock Rod Irish Open Championship at Tullyroan on a night that undoubtedly was the best night’s racing of the season so far.

It was to be one of those nights that you could probably write a long report on every single class and document every incident, but I’ve now had a long day working on racing stuff, so I won’t. What I will say is that every race offered something and the racing flowed and was enjoyable throughout.

The ProStocks were in superb form all night, from an early roll for Ashley Hawe in the opening heat right through to a late scrap in the final between Conor McElmeel and Scottish visitor Jazz Moore in the final. Jason Kee followed up his heat win last time out, with a final win this time.
The 2 Litres exceeded their previous meeting turnout and fielded around twenty five, maybe twenty six cars providing action packed stuff throughout the night, particularly in the final when the field was backed up behind Davy Potter in second place for most of the race. The final win went to Sean Dynes.

The Stock Rods were down in numbers on what they normally get for their Easter meeting, but I think this was probably down to Tipperary also running them, this no Tipperary visitors, and when I think about it there had been recent years when drivers came up and only did the Friday meeting.
Their final was not unlike the 2 Litre final, with Jonny Cardwell driving off into the distance while the rest of the field battled for second.

The 1300s made their track debut, and provided some great action throughout the evening, I was initially a bit wary that they’d be lost on the big oval, but there was always a battle somewhere on the track.

Despite only having numbers in the mid teens, the National Bangers still put on a superb show and also featured an early roll in their opening race and the action continued right through to some huge hits in a lively destruction derby.
