Been There, Done That... Bought the T-Shirt?
Through my time of following Oval Racing, particularly when I was younger, I’ve gathered up quite a collection of Oval Racing Merchandise. There was a time I was nearly as excited to visit a new track shop as I was to visit a new track, and I rarely came away from a meeting on the mainland without a handful of prints, keyrings, baseball caps, a few magazines, windows stickers and wherever possible a t-shirt.

Over the past season or so through NIOvalTV we’ve tried to add as much of a selection of pocket money stuff as possible to make it affordable for everyone to take something away from the racing if they so wish and I’ve a list of ideas for products in my head that I’d like to make happen, if it’s only for the sake of making it happen. Amongst those ideas was a t-shirt, I know the sport is now flooded with teamwear and custom embroidery, but looking back at my prize purchases from track shops, My F2 World final t-shirts from Cowdie in 97 and Swindon in 98 are amongst my favourites, and I still occasionally sleep in my 2002 World T-shirt, but to the best of my knowledge no one in NI had ever produced something like that for the local oval racing. A few weeks ago we started making enquiries about pricing, we’ve been in negotiations with a top digital artist and we thought we were going to be the first to bring a t-shirt to market in NI for this year’s 2 Litre Hot Rod World Final. We’d barely agreed that we should do it and I got a message from Jonny Murdock asking for logos to send off for Team Buckle to produce a Shamwreck t-shirt. I have to admit there was a mix of disappointment that it’ll stop us being the first one to do it, but also a sense of pride that something our sport hasn’t had here in years is going to happen, and as nice as it is to bring your own product to market, it’s better still when you can buy someone else’s.

So, the point we’re getting to here is that Team Buckle will have a T-shirt available for Shamwreck 2014 (Which I think is going to be available from NIOvalTV and the guys themsevles in the pits), the profits raised are going cancer charities. This is a genuine opportunity not just to support the charities they are raising funds for, to support the guys themselves who have no doubt had to stake quite a few pound on stock in order to ensure that they actually make money, but also to own a piece of local oval racing history, as I believe it to be the first t-shirt produced for a single event. It might not be me that’s done it this time, but it also supports my vision to bring a t-shirt to market on the local oval racing scene.
T-shirts are priced at £15…. please buy one!
