McCurdy Hat Trick at Ballymena |
The first of 3 meetings and 3 tracks in 3 days for hardened oval racing fans in the country, and looking at the weather forecasts possibly the only dry one.
I have to say I was quite sceptical of the concept of 8 classes being on the programme and worried I was going to spend a lot of the night bored watching 2 or 3 cars drive around, but thankfully a lot of the classes were run together that didn’t turn out to be the case.
In the Nationals Bill McCurdy took a hat-trick of wins as they close in on the end of their world series and it comes closer to crunch time for the big guns at the back, and I think it’s the first meeting in a while that none of the world championship place contenders ended up with a DNF.
In the other classes Niall McFerran won the Junior final. The Classic Hot Rods managed an extra car on the last meeting I seen them at, the Retro Rods managed two extra cars, the EuroStocks are starting to surpass the Gp 2’s as the premier budget class at the raceway, and generally it wasn’t a bad nights racing.
Incidentally, if you aren’t already friends, or haven’t already liked the EuroStocks page on facebook, you probably should. I think it’s being run by a driver or relative of a driver and I’ve a lot of time for people trying to do something for their class and the sport, it could well be what sees the class grow and at least it’s a class with a bit of variety of car in it to photo and watch.
