Tullyroan is happy hunting ground for the Bears |
Ireland’s biggest banger event of the year took place at Tullyroan on Sunday as the Bears made their first visit to the venue and reclaimed the title they’d been so successful in at Nuttscorner Oval.
The opening race for the bangers was a qualifier for the first 6 places on the Shamwreck grid and seen a race win for Gareth Griffiths. The feature race seen the usual heavy metal action you’d expect from Shamwreck and a familiar colour scheme at the line as Justin Riley led home Steven Bolton and Arian Vorkink
The bangers All Comers race played out in truly theatrical style, with Darren Gaffney eventually bringing his stricken car across the line after several run ins with Stevo McGrath in a big Yank who’d also been a contender for the win in a race that seen leader after leader taken out. Gaffney climbed onto the top of the car after the win and received the biggest cheer of the afternoon. It was a single race worthy of the entry fee alone!
In the DD there was a win for Ashley Riley . Best tin was tightly contested between Jonny Murdock’s Vulga and Stevo McGrath’s Yank, in the end myself and Jonny couldn’t come to a decision on it so left it in the hands of Alex Catley to choose. Willy O got the best wreck and Gaffney received entertainer of the day.
The 1300 Stock Cars made their second appearance at Tullyroan and despite only having 7 cars they were action packed throughout the day. Ross Houston took the final win.
In the Ninja Karts there was a hat trick of wins for Adam McFall, I had just ventured out onto the infield to photo the final in time for the only heavy shower of the day and so slipped back to the shelter of the NIOvalTV cart. Despite being held in wet conditions with karts on slicks the final was one of the few Ninja kart races to go the full distance without a stoppage, a credit to some of the youngsters who managed to get karts out of harms way when they did spin.
In the 2 Litre Hot Rods there was a heat and final double for Joel Richardson, while Jack Boal won the other heat making it a yellow grade lock out.
With the weather forecasts going into the weekend for a blanket of heavy rain throughout, how we didn’t get soaked at Tullyroan or Aghadowey is beyond me, but we’ll just be grateful for it. Shamwreck as ever didn’t fail to entertain.
