Nicholl and Donnelly King and Queen of Aghadowey |
Another trip to Aghadowey and another opportunity to stand out on a cold night in light showers. In the same way shale tracks get watered every few races it seems compulsory that the weather system at the North West venue provides it’s own automated track watering system. For years I thought I’d just been unlucky that I could only ever remember being at Aghadowey once on a good day, putting it down to not having been very often and perhaps it had all been early or late season meetings, I now realise it just always rains there. On the plus side for spectators there is the shed and for the rest of us it wasn’t as wet as last week.
On track both junior classes raced for their King of Aghadowey titles. In the Ninja Karts Megan Murray looked on course to take the title which would then have made it the Queen of Aghadowey, but a late stoppage in the final brought the star drivers back into the race and it was Matthew Nicholl who took the honours.
By contrast in the Junior Productions it looked nailed on that Shane McMillan had the title in the bag up until his car went sick with a few laps remaining and Caoimh Donnelly took the win and became the Queen of Aghadowey.
Staying with the McMillan family, Derek McMillan took both heats in the Stock Rods and wasn’t too far away in the final when he came second to William Taggart.
In the ProStocks there was a final win for Dean Fleming, while Davy Wilson took the honours in the Thunder Rod final.
