The Reign Continues at Aghadowey for Beattie
Kyle Beattie retained the Superstox Irish Championship title at Aghadowey Oval on Friday the 17th of October in conditions that can only be described as horrendous.

Somewhere along the lines there is going to be one of those “top 10” type programmes on some 2 bit TV channel on sky that feature the most inhospitable places on earth to host sporting events and Aghadowey is going to be right up there. As I stood on the NIOvalTV video gantry last night for the Superstox Irish last night I was wondering firstly how the track was getting wet as the rain seemed to be horizontal the wind was that strong and secondly was it even rain, or hail or possibly even snow. On the plus side, it has a stand, so we sheltered in there, and it was actually that cosy I was able to take my coat off and let it dry out a bit.

Considering the conditions the racing was good, although the Superstox Irish I think would have been much better in the dry, but such is life. In the Championship race Gary and Denver Grattan got away off the front row while Gregg Hyndman was having a sideways moment as the cars crossed the line which back the pack up a bit and let the Grattan brothers get away up until an early stoppage as a car park formed on turn one. Gary Grattan made the early running before a three way battle formed between Gary, Denver and Kyle Beattie. Denver Grattan looked to have got the better of the situation but got caught up with back markers and forced across the grass allowing Beattie into the lead. Beattie drove a steady race to take the win with Gary Grattan second and Denver Grattan recovered to third.

In the other classes there was final wins for Derek McMillan (Stock Rods), Stephen Scott (Thunder Rods) and Dean Fleming (ProStocks).

The other big news on the night is that the 2015 Superstox Championship of the World will be staged at Aghadowey Oval….. hopefully in more pleasant conditions.
