Double Irish for Dan |
Dan Shannon won the ProStock Irish Championship at Tullyroan Oval’s gala night and final night of the season on Saturday night, adding the title to the Irish Open championship that he won at Aghadowey during the Summer Speedweekend. Dave Haugh won the 2L National Bangers Irish Championship on the night too.
Having been caught out by the size of the crowd on Friday night at Aghadowey I made an extra effort to be at Tullyroan earlier than normal on the Saturday, and it was business as usual at NIOvalTV with Jonny filming and me taking photos.
It depends on your perspective if the big race of the night was the Banger Irish or the ProStock Irish, but it was going to be a big contact night anyway. The ProStocks final came down to the last lap with Dan Shannon having led Stephen McCready for quite a bit of the race but got caught up with a backmarker going into turn one which gave McCready a chance to get a hit in, Shannon took the hit and got away in the lead, going on to take the win while McCready had fallen into the clutches of Steven Haugh who moved through to take second with McCready third.
The revenge race featured a big smash on the home straight before the cars even crossed the line and wiped out half the field. Stuart Agnew took the win in it.
The 2L Banger Irish Championship has been one of the lively banger events in recent seasons and it started off that way with a big pileup in turn one. Dave Haugh took the win with Leonard Dunn runner up.
The Superstox were the third contact class on the bill, I think they may have lost a car or two in practice, but still put on 3 good races with three different winners as the star graders struggled to get to the front. Chris McArdle took heat one, Jordan Robinson took heat two and Stephen Stewart won the final.
In the 2 Litre Hot Rods there was a heat and final double for Wayne Woolsey. Jack Morrow also took a heat and final double in the Ninja Karts.
