English Domination at Shamwreck |
After Scottish domination in the Stock Rods on the opening weekend of the season it was the turn of English to put their stamp of authority on the next big event of the season’s action with 5 different English winners at Shamwreck 2016.
Tom Waller won the opening heat of the afternoon which despite only having a few finishers seemed a fairly quiet one.
Heat two which seemed to have far more cars than heat one kicked into life early on with Rod Herron clipping the back of Dan Buckley which sent Herron’s car onto it’s side. Jack Deacon won the heat and also best presented.
In the Shamwreck final the heat winners Waller and Deacon broke away from the field and avoided the early carnage while exchanging places and blows for the lead but ultimately they both suffered the same fate and became two more victims of Nutty Nige who was removing just about everything that was still moving. As the laps and cars counted down it was Kieron Fry of the Bears who was out and took the win ahead of David Gibson and Steven Reynolds.
Given the chaos of the Shamwreck final there was a good grid of cars returned for the All Comers race the highlight of which was a big pileup in turn three and four in which Nutty Nige despatched Kieran McIvor and Graham Howell who’s Volvo ended up wreck of the day over it. Stevo McGrath’s best car of the day also took a pounding into the pileup. Out front David Gibson had the race in the bag but in hitting backmarker Nutty Nige the back of his Supra kicked out collecting a parked car and damaging the back axle, this allowed Josh Spokes (another of the Bears) to take the win.
Over twenty cars returned for the destruction derby which was a lively one and seen a win for Ashley Riley (another of the Bears) who also picked up entertainer of the meeting.
Shamwreck once again proved why it’s Ireland’s biggest banger meeting and the Bears once again proved why they have such a following.
