A much more successful trip to Ballymena this week from a Photography point of view, even if I did arrive late and watched the opening F2 heat from the outside, while setting about getting dinner from the burger van. If someone had told me that I’d have been to ten meetings this season before seeing the F2’s in action I’d have told them they were mad, but as fate meant it to be, this was the first time I’d seen them in action. I’d hoped there would have been a better turn out of Tooz with the F2 challenge only two meetings away at Ballymena, but with the world on shale this season, I get the impression there isn’t too many drivers all that fussed on qualifying, which could have an effect numbers all season. Heat one went to Gary Blair, with Gavin Fegan taking the second heat, in which most of the action came in the first bend with Conor Hughes ending up on his roof and Denver Grattan and Christopher Kincaid ended up tangled. Hughes made it out for the final, only to last a few laps before the front suspension collapsed, Craig McConnell took the final win. The Nationals put on a good show as they inevitably do in the wet at Ballymena, with some good side by side racing. Heatrick and Christie split the heats before McReynolds took victory in the final. The Stock rod final was in my eyes the race of the night with Stephen McCready miles up the road taking the win, and a hat-trick on the night, the big scrap was for second which everyone seemed to end up involved in. It showed the class at it’s very best. Matthew Sterling took the saloon final after Anthony McIvor attempted an ambitious hit on him in the last bend. McIvor had taken the two heats, which were fairly lively. In the Gp 2 Lighting Rods there was wins for 88, Brian Edgar and Lyle Murray.
