Finally after a run of Sunday and Bank holiday Monday meetings, Nuttscorner Oval returned to it’s traditional spot on a Saturday night, the only Saturday night meeting this side of June! A pretty cold and blustery night, which looked as though it could get worse with dark clouds all around, but thankfully only the one heavy shower. Twenty-seven 2 Litre Hot Rods, with Caleb Howard making his debut, and somewhat unlucky not to get something from the final. Vince Campbell returned with a nice new paint job. The new grading in the 2 Litres mixed the pack a little. Davy Clarke and Andrew Murray split the heats before Gareth Hagan took the final win. Heat two provided one of the most bizarre finishes your likely to see in any motorsport as Wayne Woolsey, Gary O’Neill and Philip Beatty crossed the line tangled, at one stage Woolsey was 90 degrees to the track. The nationals had some good racing as well, and a bit of a coming together in the final, there would have been photos of it, only I turned my flash on, but not the camera.... I can’t blame the camera this time. Rab Forsythe and Mark Heatrick shared the heats with Paul Crawford taking the honours in the final. Stephen Emerson took the opening lightning rod heat, following a great drive around the outside of David Hearst. Richard Stewart took the second heat, with Martin O’Flaherty taking the final. In the robins there was a heat and final double for Rab Stewart, with Billy McLean picking up the other heat win.
