2011 - #16 – Nuttscorner Oval 5/6/11 |
Billed as the Ultimate Showdown the Ireland V England Banger meeting would probably be better described as the Ultimate Chuckin’ it Down.
After a few Sunny days, the traditional Northern Ireland summer was re-instated for the day it seems, all that varied was how heavy the rain was, and no doubt the miserable weather had an effect on the crowd.
None the less, the bangers put on as good as show as you’ll see at any meeting, I reckon Ireland outnumber England with around 20 to 13 cars, which only seemed to create more targets. The performance of Carlos Perez was a joy to watch as he went about taking both heat wins and the final, but got stuck into anything that was on front of him, in a manor that I’ve only really seen Mick Sworder and Rob Speak do in F2.
The England team had the meeting in the bag before the DD, and even when we outnumbered them 8 on 2, they still came through with the victory.
In the other classes Andrew Murray took both heats and the final in the 2 Litre Hot Rods. John Christie looked to have had the second heat in the bag before spinning on the River bend while he was well out on front. Wayne Woolsey was second in the final with John Christie third.
John Brady took both heats in the ProStocks, with Alan Haugh taking the win in the final.
In the Juniors there was an opening heat win for Kyle Hill, with Conor Conlon taking the second heat and Bradley McKinstry took the final win, which looked possibly the wettest race of the day.
