2011 - # 36 – Nuttscorner Oval – 25/9/2011 |
What a lovely afternoon to go to the racing! Not for the first time this season, one of the big banger events was blighted by some pretty miserable conditions.
With fairly heavy rain in the opening heats, I opted to keep my camera dry and wait for the bangers before heading for the infield. By chance it stopped raining just as the bangers were coming out for their Nuttshaker event.
A half decent grid of bangers provided some good action throughout the afternoon and the second race seemed to see the heaviest of the afternoons race. Keiran McIvor took the honours in the Nuttshaker itself.
The Robins contested their King of Nuttscorner, which looked more the King of Lough Neagh by the time the final came around, I’m convinced some of the cars were actually floating over the top of the puddles at times. Steven Bolton was the eventual victor.
The Lightning Rods had a lively afternoon, with several cars picking up quite a bit of damage in heat 2, and they were the first to experience the rather damp conditions that followed the down pour in the second Banger heat. After a fair bit of pushing throughout the field, Brendan McConnell was eventually declared the winner. I’ll be honest, from where I was the conditions were that grim I didn’t know who was leading, what anyone was docked for or how the result came about.
Raymond Harper took the win in the 2 Litre final, were only 7 cars finished and conditions were that bad that the race was stopped with 5 laps to go. Andrew Murray and Vince Campbell had taken the heat wins.
Later in the day I heard the sad news of the death of Banger Driver David Weare at Hednesford. My thoughts are with his family, friends, the officials at Hednesford, those who witnessed it and all concerned.
