2011 - #38 - Nuttscorner Oval - 1/10/2011 |
It's hard to believe that we are already into October and only a few meetings from the end of the season, the season seems to have almost past in the blink of an eye, perhaps I'm just getting old and that is what happens.
Nuttscorner Oval hosted the Lightning Rod Irish Championship, National Hot Rods World Series Round 7 as well as welcoming home the new ProStock Champions, Junior Productions and 2 Litre Hot Rods.
No doubt the biggest talking point of the evening will be the closing of the pit gate with so many cars still in the pits and lots of drivers missing out on races, one of two cars missed ProStock heat 2, 5 cars missed the second National Hot Rod heat, while the Lightning Rods Irish revenge race was contested by only eight of the twenty six cars which had taken part in the Irish Championship. For those who weren't there, the drivers were warned from the start of the night that those lined up and ready to come out would be allowed out and anyone not lined up to come out when the class was called wouldn't get out. Hat's off to Nuttscorner Oval for following through on this decision and leaving so many cars in the pits. None of us go to the racing to stand in the rain looking at a half formed grid while drivers toot around in the pits, it's unfortunate that some of the races were very low on car numbers, but a lesson was clearly learnt from it and everyone was much quicker to line up for the final.
The big talking point out of the way, Stephen Emerson took a comfortable victory in the Lightning Rod Irish, which off the top of my head makes it one more win than Nigel Jackson in the event. The National Hot Rod final was one of the best races of the night as Stewart Doak attempted to drive around the outside of Keith Martin lap after lap, with the two cars crossing the line almost side by side, with Martin taking the win. The Juniors too had a spectacular final as Jordan Rochford lost out to Derek McMillan as they got caught up in backmarkers on the very last lap. In the 2 Litre's there was a rare final win for Davy Potter, and in the ProStocks there was first outings for the gold roof on Thomas Agnew's car, the St Andrews cross on the roof of Billy Finnegan's car and the first time I'd seen the British chequers on Davy Morrison's car, having been on holiday the last time the ProStocks were out.
