2011 - #45 - Aghadowey Stockcar Stadium - 19/11/11 |
Finally, I've managed to get to Aghadowey for the first time since it re-opened, in fact it was that long ago since I'd been to Aghadowey and from memory I'd only driven there once myself (and I go lost that time), I was reliant on my sat-nav to find it.
Forty fifth meeting of 2011 for me, seventh venue, third new infield to me.
My first impressions of the track are that a lot of work has been done around it and it looks well for it, it even has a decent safety area in the centre of the track. Having heard reports of meetings going on to all hours, I cringed when I seen there was a 21 race schedule, but the meting was well run and the races quickly turned around, the first race even started early. Some of the classes were a bit light on numbers, but every final was entertaining. The lead two in the juniors went over the line side by side, the group 2's was decided on the last lap, the 1400 saloons always looked like something was about to happen, the Bangers was won by a last bend hit and lost by an after the race hit. The Robins were undoubtedly the stars attraction (not often I say that), with thirteen cars on track they didn't disappoint, every race had cars rolling and drama, the final went the way of Anthony McIvor but only after a late clash with Stephen Bolton which left the lead pair on the grass, Bolton upside down and McIvor only just managing to get it back onto it's wheels, while Jimmy Beattie nearly came through to take the win. It was probably as good as the Robins have been in a long time.
Hopefully this will be the start of the promotions starting to work together, Aghadowey looks to be a great facility still and it would be nice to see more of the bigger classes getting a run round it.
