| 2013 - #47 – Tullyroan Oval - 5/10/13 |
Irish Championship season and under the floodlights time. A combination of the run of daylight meetings at Tullyroan, me missing a lot of meetings at Ballymena this season, the thus far mild weather and the anticipation of the World weekend for most of the year, the Irish closed season and the dark nights feel as though they’ve almost crept up on me, it’s quite hard to believe it’s only a few weeks until another season is over, and beyond that it’s not that long to Christmas…. And then Easter and we do it all over again!

After a few weekends of doing two meetings, finally a weekend where I only felt the need to go to one, and a welcome relief it was. As the end of the season approaches this meeting I figured was probably the last one I’ll see this season which takes place entirely in daylight.

The second day of the World Weekender and the turn of the Lightning Rods to take centre stage. As it happened I followed Nigel Jackson out the last road to the track and said at the time we were following the future World Champion, and as it happened, that is exactly how it turned out.

F2 World final time at a track I just love, I also love meetings to be dry, but that wasn’t to be. A strange weekend for me to be standing with a beer in my hand instead of a camera on a Saturday night, but much more relaxing and there is some races I much prefer just to stand back and enjoy, the F2 world is one of them.

| 2013 - #41 – Tullyroan Oval – 7/9/13 |
For most of the week I’d been keeping an eye on the weather for Saturday night, and for most of the week the weather hadn’t been bad, but the forecast for Saturday only varied between rain and heavy rain, it was as though someone flicked a switch on Saturday and just turned the spell of reasonably good weather off and switched winter on for the day at least. Saturday therefore delivered one of Tullyroan’s few wet meetings. With the nights drawing in, lots of people standing about in hi-viz clothing, it’s not much of a joy to be a photographer, or at least I don’t find it to be one.

It’s hard to believe it’s the start of September already, the season seems to have passed in a blur from one weekend to the next, one meeting to the next and it’s gone from cold long nights building up to the summer, to championship season and t-shirt weather, back to getting a bit fresher and knocking on the door of Irish Championship season.
Traditionally the National Hot Rod Irish Open/ British Championship weekend has been the last flurry of visiting drivers for the season, but with the World weekend at Tullyroan just a few weeks away that will take that mantle this year.

| 2013 - #39 – Ballymena Raceway - 31/8/13 |
For most of the last few weeks I could have taken or leaven most of the meetings I’ve attended, as official photographer at Tullyroan I feel more obliged to be there, where as I’m not at Ballymena so it is where I’ve missed a few meeting that in previous years I would have taken in. Even with the National Irish Open, it wasn’t until around 5 o’clock I decided that I was going to go and unfortunately it also wasn’t until 5 o’clock that I realized it was an early start, so I got fed and just arrived late.

I’d somewhat expected this to be my 40th meeting of the season as the weekend approached, but my current enthusiasm levels for the racing was outweighed by the weather on Friday night, and some work around the house took longer than expected on Saturday and so I ended up missing both Ballymena meetings.
A rollover in the Ninja Karts at the end of practice, followed by stoppages in the first two races at Tullyroan didn’t do much to boost my enthusiasm at the time either and for a while I felt I might be missing a better Grand Prix, but the meeting got better as it went on.

To be honest I’m really starting to feel that I have done the amount of meetings I have done this season, I’ve felt that “burn out” is setting in for most of the week and it’s becoming a bit of a strain. I know there is plenty of folk who will have done more meetings than I have, I know there is some who put a lot more time and effort into it than I do, and I know where I may spend between 3-8 hours after every meeting working on bits and pieces for websites, magazines and so on, there are an army of drivers and mechanics up and down the country spending night after night in the shed or their garage getting their cars ready. I don’t claim that I do more than any of these people, but I am getting to the stage that I question if I do a lot of things now out of habit, or for genuine interest.
